Early plum varieties start to flower, so it is time to prune the vines before they also start to sprout. I have just over 1000 m2,
a small field and this bigger one you can see below.
Everything is still very manageable and manageable on your own.
Last year (2023) was the driest year and brought us 350 litres of red wine, which is resting in barrels. Every spring we prune the vines to stimulate growth for a new productive season
I like to use the trunks of the most productive vines of the year for propagation, free planting on walls and for shade hedges.
The rest is burnt or used as a base for raised beds or mulch.
We have already done this at the end of January this year and can do other things in peace.
Before budding and after the harvest season, we also use the vineyards as chicken pastures, clearing them of all ground plants and vermin while fertilising and loosening the soil.
The picture below shows the chickens at work in the small vineyard.
